firstly to clear things out...I just updated to windows 10 home recently from win 8.1 (activated version) and my windows 10 is still activated. I was hearing things about the end of free win 10 update and you have to purchase an activation key for about $100+...now that is something.

After the installation it opens up and runs a diagnosis on your pc....it's about 4gb in size...not to worry about the size, you can download it bit by bit.
NOTE: you can not upgrade from any home version of windows to pro for free...
